I'm surprised you glazed over the obvious point that the minority government which nearly toppled in 1966 over the KGB spy Victor Spence was led by Liberal PM Lester Pearson (mentioned previously in the article) and the NDP who objected were led by eugenics fan Tommy Douglas.

Good historical pull. George Victor Spencer's 1966 spy case tested Pearson's minority government to the limit. I pulled the Wells Commission report. NDP leader Tommy Douglas and the opposition piled on with objections. Pearson ordered the inquiry to defuse it. The findings backed the RCMP actions overall. Minority rule sure makes those scandals hit harder. Full report: https://epe.lac-bac.gc.ca/100/200/301/pco-bcp/commissions-ef/wells1966-eng/wells1966-eng.pdf

Definitely want to dig deeper into this.

I'm wrapping my head around a Royal Commission being created in response to the complaint of a private citizen. Good luck getting that kind of reaction nowadays!!
